Where is the Maraú Peninsula?
On the southern coast of Bahia, Brazil, on the Costa do Dendê, between the Atlantic Ocean and Camamu Bay, in the municipality of Maraú.
Are Barra Grande and the Maraú Peninsula the same thing?
No. Barra Grande is the village at the tip of the peninsula; the peninsula also includes Taipu de Fora, Cassange, Saquaíra, Algodões and other villages.
How do I get to Barra Grande?
By boat from Camamu, by dirt road along the peninsula or by air taxi. Barra Grande has no scheduled flights.
When do the natural pools appear?
At low tide. Use the Brazilian Navy tide tables.
How many days should I stay?
Three to five days let you see the pools, the lagoon, the bay and the beaches without rushing.
Do I need a car?
Not necessarily. In Barra Grande you can walk everywhere; for the Atlantic beaches there are transfers and tours.
