Where to stay on the Maraú Peninsula
Updated on October 7, 2026 ✓ Information verified on October 6, 2026 adapted version of the Portuguese original
The peninsula is long and the roads are unpaved, so your choice of base changes the trip. We do not recommend specific places to stay without a public source: see the listings in the business directory.
Barra Grande
Pros: arrival point for the boats from Camamu, more restaurants, bay trips leaving from there and the sunset at Ponta do Mutá. Cons: busier in high season; the open-sea beaches require transport.
Três Coqueiros and the outskirts of Barra Grande
Pros: more peace and quiet without going far from the village. Wikivoyage mentions guesthouses on Três Coqueiros beach. Cons: you may need transport at night to have dinner in the village.
Taipu de Fora
Pros: wake up next to the natural pools and make the most of low tide without relying on a transfer. Cons: fewer restaurants and shops.
Cassange, Saquaíra and Algodões
Pros: long beaches, nature and silence. Cons: farther from everything; you depend on a car or transfer.
Before you book
- Check the registration on Cadastur, the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism’s registry.
- Ask how to get there from Camamu or from the road.
- Ask which payment methods are accepted.
