The Maraú Peninsula is on the southern coast of Bahia, Brazil, between the Atlantic Ocean and Camamu Bay. It is harder to reach than other beach destinations, and the best of the region depends on the tide. Follow the steps below in order.
1. Choose the season
The climate is humid tropical, with more than 2,000 mm of rain a year. The rainiest months run from March to June, and the driest from August to October. Details in when to go.
2. Decide how to get there
Boat from Camamu, the dirt road along the peninsula, or an air taxi to Barra Grande. Compare them in how to get there and Barra Grande Airport.
3. Choose your base
Barra Grande is the most practical. Taipu de Fora and the Atlantic beaches are quieter. See where to stay.
4. Check the tide table
Before you settle your itinerary, open the Navy tide tables for your travel dates. Days with a very low tide are best for the Taipu de Fora pools. Explanation in low tide and natural pools.
5. Build your itinerary
Use the templates for 2, 3 and 5 days.
