- Barra Grande and Ponta do Mutá
Barra Grande is the village at the tip of the Maraú Peninsula, next to Ponta do Mutá, where the peninsula meets the entrance to Camamu Bay. It is a district of the municipality of Maraú and the main place to stay for visitors to the region.
What the village is like
Wikivoyage describes Barra Grande as a quiet former fishing village that has kept its simple character partly because it is hard to reach. On one side lies the calm water of the bay; on the other, the way to the open-sea beaches, such as Taipu de Fora.
According to the same source, in and around the village people get around on foot, by bicycle, on horseback, by boat or in 4x4 vehicles. At low tide, the look of the shoreline changes a great deal.
Why stay in Barra Grande
- It is where the boats from Camamu arrive, and it is close to the airstrip (about 4 km from the village, according to the English Wikipedia).
- It has the most guesthouses and restaurants, and the people who organize tours.
- It gives easy access to Ponta do Mutá and the sunset over the bay.

Practical tips
